Why do our Flat Roofs Seem to Leak so Often?
As you know when it rains in Spain it rains. It is not uncommon to have massive downpours even in the middle of very warm weather. We can see as much as 100-120mm of rain fall in just one hour and in a meteorological event called a Gota Fria (Cold Drop) the water dropping from the sky is truly biblical.
What do we have to defend us from this, a flat roof that´s what. That’s seems at odds with logic as you would expect a flat roof to just fill up like a paddling pool in heavy rain.
Correctly fitted and maintained a flat roof can last a lifetime.
Sadly, all too often we are asked to inspect a roof, where we find that a number of issues have occurred through a lack of information being made available to the residents. Things like blocked or malfunctioning drains, failing skirting tiles, blown render and even trees growing in between the tiles. These are all issues we have found and had to resolve.
